The Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum was founded in 1955. Its object is to collect,
preserve, and display items which illustrate the natural environment of
the Faroe Islands. The work of making new exhibitions and improving the
old ones goes on continuously. The exhibitions are housed in two buildings.
Research plays an important part in the work.
The museum is divided into three departments: The Geology Department,
The Zoology Department, and the Botany Department. Nine people are employed
at the museum.
Blasastova in Gøta
Blasastova in Gøta welcomes you to see a complete, old, Faroese
village community with old farmers cottages, old fishermans cottages and
an ancient church. The museum provides a unique insight in the culture
and way of life in the Faroes in past centuries.

Forni in Glyvrum
The museum Forni in Glyvrar is a house from the 17th century. Get the
feeling of being transported back in time, as you walk through the rooms,
that are kept like they were in the 18. hundreds. The museum also contains
a shop from the early 19. hundreds.

Boat museum & Art Gallery
The mainstay of the Leirvik economy used to be off-shore fishing from
open rowing boats. Here you can see these boats and painthings from 2
artist in Leirvik. The museum also has photographs of the fishing vessels.

The Sloop Høganes lies in dock in Saltangara / Runavik, and here
it is possible to see how it was back in the 17 century off shore. This
old fishing boat has now been made into a show-boat where there are live
concerts and different exhibitions.
