Art stories

Funny stories from artists' life.

My 1-st story. 1990-s

When I was a third-year student of the Art Institute, a young 17-year old girl, who was a student of the Conservatory, came to us to pose. This job was paid a little, but poor student was pleased even with it. We studied "portrait" and were glad to paint her from life as she was pretty and lovely, innocent and naive like a child. All she thought about was music and art.
One day during the break we went together to the students' buffet to buy hot dogs. We talked about ancient music. Suddenly the door of one of the classrooms, where students drew a naked man, opened in front of us. In the doorway we saw him - that naked man. All the students of our Institute knew him very well because he had been working as a naked model in our Institute for a long time. He stretched his hand with money and politely asked her to buy him a pie … The girl was to shocked to say anything, she turned red and hurried out of the Institute, it was the last time we saw her. Our group had to finish a portrait of this girl on memory …
Girls and boys! Be cautious at art universities! There are many naked people!

This story is told by a teacher of painting Pavel Alexandrovich Chernykh.

Alexander Chernykh, father of our teacher of painting, was a well-known artist at the beginning of the 20-th century. In 1910-s he, Serov and Korovin (leter they became famous Russian artists) were students of one and the same art-school and they were friends of Vladimir Majakovsky (who became a widely-known Soviet poet). All of them used to in one of the restaurants in winter. They were forbidden to drink alcohol there as they were15-17 years old. Several times they managed to get drunk secretly from waiters and when their intoxication became obvious - they were shown the door from this restaurant. But it was very cold outside because of frosty Russian winter, and "excited" young talents did not want to leave. Every time it resalted in fight with the restaurant's staff that had negative influence on this institution' prestige. That is why the door-keeper was ordered to search them for alcohol before letting them in. But in spite of all the safety precaution "disobedient" geniuses, ordering just tea, became drunk in an hour and started a fight again. The restaurant's owner could not realize how they managed to carry vodka in?!
Vladimir Majakovsky was a very tall man and the door-keeper was b but not too tall. When the door-keeper searched young men for vodka, Vladimir lifted his hands up and the door-keeper could search just his trunk so he could not either reach Vladimir's hands or even think that the bottle was hidden in a sleeve of a fur coat! Eventually the owner allowed them to drink alcoholic drinks in small quantities as he could do nothing.
This story is not written down anywhere as V.Majakovsky was a poet - idol in communistic USSR for a long time and authorities preserved his image with care.
